Pre-Diabetes
Pre-diabetes is a condition in which an individual’s blood sugar level is higher than normal, but not high enough to be classified as type 2 diabetes. Without intervention, pre-diabetes is likely to transition to type 2 diabetes in 10 years or less. With pre-diabetes, individuals may not experience obvious signs or symptoms. This makes it difficult to realize the severity of the condition, and that possible damage to the heart, blood vessels, kidneys and other systems may already be occurring.
Being diagnosed with pre-diabetes doesn’t mean the condition will inevitably transition into diabetes. However, being diagnosed is an opportunity for individuals to start improving their health. With healthy lifestyle changes, such as eating healthy foods, partaking in physical activities and maintaining a healthy weight, a person with pre-diabetes can bring their blood sugar levels back to the normal range and prevent further transition into type 2 diabetes.
At Sun Health Wellness, we’ll work with you to help you better understand your current condition, and how you can proactively make lifestyle changes that will reduce your risk of converting to type 2 diabetes. We’re able to do this is through hands-on education and support, including our research-based prevention program. We’re proud that this program is the first in-person Diabetes Prevention Program in Arizona to achieve full recognition status from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). It’s also a covered benefit of Medicare and most insurance providers.
